Hello!
My name is Edd Coates and I'm a UI Artist and Digital Designer from Essex. I also really love games.
I am passionate about bringing games and apps to life through beautiful and functional UI and artwork.
When I'm not hard at work, you can find me performing locally as a singer/songwriter , or tackling my way through my ever growing games backlog.

News
As of July 2022, I am now Lead UI Artist at Radical Forge! I'm feeling incredibly lucky to have joined such a wonderful team, and I can't wait to show you all what we're upto in the coming months!
The Game UI Database
I am also the creator of the Game UI Database, a comprehensive reference tool for UI/UX Designers in the games industry!
Ever since I became a UI Artist, I wanted a faster and more efficient way of searching for reference materials. When the country went into lockdown during the 2020 Pandemic, I took the opportunity to build this tool for myself and other designers in the industry - and so the Game UI Database was born.
It was recently featured on GI.biz, Mashable, Rock Paper Shotgun and Edge Magazine, endorsed by Jeffrey Zeldman (A List Apart), and is now used extensively by studios all over the world such as Insomniac Games, Arkane Studios, Double Fine, Frontier Developments, Compulsion Games and Ubisoft Montreal to help drive UX decisions and provide inspiration.
In August 2021, the site won Best Tools Provider at the Pocket Gamer Mobile Game Awards.

Outreach
Talks, lectures, workshops and mentorship
I am incredibly passionate about passing on my knowledge and skills as a designer, as well as encouraging the next generation of UI Artists and Designers in the games industry.
As such, I've been involved in numerous events and education initiatives across the country, including Pocket Gamer Connects, GamesIndustry.biz Academy, EGX Expo, Animex and London Games Week, as well as delivering talks and workshops at the Universities of Teeside, Bolton, Birmingham and many others. I also assisted the University of Bolton with the development of their first ever UI/UX module!
In April 2021, I worked with Game Anglia on their Level Up! Programme - a 16 week boot camp that provides technical training for unemployed young people to kickstart their games industry careers. I delivered the UI/UX course, hosted weekly seminars and workshops, and provided one-to-one mentoring for the participants. This was the highlight of my year!
